Case Study

La Mare Wine Estate

When the brief came in to create a bespoke acoustic solution for an event space, we got excited.

Based in Jersey, the La Mare Wine Estate were undertaking a refurbishment to completely revamp their event room to something sophisticated but functional - tied together with flawless design.

We were approached by the client’s architect to create a stunning bespoke acoustic structure, that would be installed within the roof space and be designed to reflect the branches of the trees found within the estate grounds.

The La Mare Wine Estate frequently hosts an array of events from Weddings to Birthdays, Hen Parties to Baby Showers, therefore creating a spectacular environment with acoustic comfort, to enhance those special days, was an important consideration for the client.

After evaluating a range of products, we opted to use Cube™ from Autex - a lightweight and semi-rigid panel that has excellent sound absorbing properties. Designed with solid colour throughout, Cube™ can be used in a large array of spatial design and interior solutions.

Another key consideration for the client was the environmental impact, thankfully Cube™ is made from post-consumer recycled material and is completely safe, non-toxic, non-allergenic and non-irritant.

With the design finalised and specification of the product confirmed, our technical team had to develop a unique solution that would enable several bespoke panels to be seamlessly integrated to form one of several custom-made structures that would suspend from the roof. To add further complexity, we had to devise a method for the panels to hinge down from the ceiling, to enable access to hundreds of LED lights that were to be fitted into the panels.

To ensure everything would work flawlessly, we built a full-scale mock-up in our Guernsey workshop to test various fixing methods and create a detailed how-to guide to give to the main contractor in Jersey, who installed the panels on site, without complication.

Post installation, not only do the panels create a stunning feature but their enhanced acoustic properties help to soak up and balance sound, meaning a more enjoyable experience for those present. Now there’s no excuse for those at the back not being able to hear the best man’s bad jokes in his speech!

We believe that just because acoustics are functional, it doesn’t mean they need to look it, and these types of products should never compromise the environment either.

That’s what we love most about Autex’s range of products – their sustainability – Autex uses a minimum of 45% recycled plastic to make sure they create a demand and a pathway for plastic recycling. Our ethos is to help inspire people and we can only continue to do this through supporting and enhancing our planet.

Working with clients and suppliers that share our philosophy is important to us; we want to know that when we create an amazing space, it is done with the best possible materials.
